Helen Abbott and her son Juan "Poppy" Abbott have been pillars of the Black community. From the early days of the Thanksgiving Dinner Committee and the Coordinating Committee of the Black Community, they have been helping the less fortunate citizens of Topeka. As part of her heritage, Mrs. Norma Avery is carrying on the family tradition of working in our community to help the less fortunate and celebrate our heritage.

We honor our leaders who show us how to take care of one another and how to give back by celebrating Juneteenth and continuing to serve our community. Look for our fundraisers, speakers, the toy giveaway program and Juneteenth Celebration and other events each year so that you can participate in giving back and continue celebrating our heritage!
